With the Chinese New Year on many peoples minds at this time of year, we look at what Wokingham has to offer.

Wokingham is a very popular place for Oriental food. Most places are take-away only, with the Szechuan Inn in Bean Oak Road the only seated venue in Wokingham and others at Finchhampstead, Crowthorne and Winnersh. Click the pink venue bar below for venue details.

(close to the railway station), are several take-aways including the China Garden, one of the Wokingham originals. There is parking at the station or a chance for a drink at the Molly Millar while waiting.

in the town centre there are several choices, in Peach Street, this is HAKA, Beijing and around the corner in East Hampstead road is Shanghai, next door to the Victoria Bar. Out of town on the Estate areas you can find, to the West at Emmbrook, Wo Fung, and by Morrison's on Woosehill is the New Peking (former Wok-this-Way), and to the East on Norrey's is Golden Valley.

Of course an alternative is to throw your party at home and cook up a special. Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury and Marks" & Spencer all keep a stock of ingredients, and many are on offer for the season.

You will ideally need a wok and a gas hob, but flat bottomed, alloy woks are suited to electric hobs. Kitchenware is available in town in Dyas and Cargo in Denmark Street. Alworths, the replacement for Woolworths in Peach street and in Tesco Housewares department.

And don"t forget the fun challenge of eating it all with chop-sticks.
