Wikipedia has a very informative entry about Wokingham. Our Wokingham is located in Berkshire, England, Great Britain, United Kingdom. It is, as far as I know, the only Wokingham in the world, which is surprising as most English town names have been used in various States of America, taken there by former residents of each town when they emigrated to America in the early years of the formation of that country. We regularly refer to "the pub" in our presentations and publications, the phrase has a special meaning in Great Britain. It comes from a derivation of "public house" which are business premises licensed to serve alcohol, abroad they are usually known as bars, but differ in England as these businesses will serve draught ales (some real and some 'fizz'), lagers, ciders, perries, wines and alchopops, whereas restaurants will usually serve wine by the glass or bottle and some spirits, but rarely have any draught ales. However many of our local pubs also serve a wide range of food and some form a full bridge between the Pub and Restaurant styles. Our Wokingham Eatery guide is intended to help visitors and locals keep pace with the ever changing range of eating places in the town. We use the term "eatery" to cover all the different styles of inside eating places. We also list by style, although this can be more difficult, in some cases the style is obvious and fixed, but with other eateries the style is mixed. For instance is Don Beni a pizza house, a pasta house or an Italian restaurant? It is of course all three, whereas Rossini's and Sorrento's are straight forward Italian restaurants. We list food styles including, pizza, curry, tandoori, pasta, grills, steak house, Italian, Chinese, Balti curry, French Cuisine and traditional English. The eating guide includes a guide and directory listing for drinking, leisure, real ale, beer, wine, cocktails, cider, perries and aims to provide a comprehensive directory listing and up-to-date news about Wokingham Berkshire England UK.
